About Casarabonela 40 minutes drive to the Airport. 151 minute drive to Granada Casarabonela is one of many white washed villages in rural Andalucia. Sitting in the natural park of The Sierra de Las Nieves, there is an abundance of wildlife including eagles and Bee Eaters. The climate is wonderful all year round with 16 - 20 degrees during the winter, rising to the high 30 degrees in the summer. Places of interest include the stunning fresh water lakes of El Chorro (35 mins), El Torcal rock formations, El Palo beach in Malaga and Malaga old town (35 mins). There is also loads of traditional Spanish culture including Antequera, Granada and the plethora of Moorish villages - all within an hour and a half or the glitz of Marbella, Puerto Banus and the rest of the Costa del Sol. Gastronomy and Craftwork The most traditional dish in Casarabonela is the sopa perota. This soup is made by frying chopped tomatoes and peppers in a frying pan and then adding water and boiling all the ingredients together. When ready to eat, breadcrumbs are added. In recent years many handicraft workshops have spring up here in order to revive traditional crafts such as pottery. Rush and esparto grass esparto are also made in the town. Flora and Fauna The flora is typical of Mediterranean woodland, with holm oaks and pine trees, many of which have been planted in recent years and scrub-land covered with esparto grass, fan palms and gorse. Rosemary, juniper and roach rose also grow in the countryside around the village. The municipal distract, especially around La Robla, is notable for the many species of large bird founds here, such as booted eagles goshawks, kestrels, harriers, buzzards and eagle owls. At ground level there are foxes and occasionally mountain goats and roe deer.
