At a later date the town continued to prosper under Arab dominion and an area nearby still bears the evocative name of Bentomiz. Subsequently the town fell to the Christian forces in 1487 towards the end of the Reconquest. Modern day Algarrobo is a prosperous town with narrow winding streets through which one can reach the hermitage of San Sebastian in the upper part of the village. The parochial church was built in honour of Santa Ana. There are quite a few popular bars and restaurants and in Algarrobo-Costa fresh sea food at some of the "chiringotos" ( beach restaurants) is a good way enjoying a casual lunch.
